Merry X-mas to me.

A little present to myself. I love Super Record stuff, I think it's the highpoint in human civilization. I hoard as much of it as possible. How good is that box with a velvet inside?

Where is the bike wash?

One of the most important rules of winter training is washing your bike after. Sean Kelly used to preach this and it's good to see Juan Antonio Flechaee keeping the tradition alive.

I've begun my winter base training

Any real cyclist knows that if you want to be quick come summer, one must train in the cold, dark, dead of winter. It feels great to get out on the bike more consistently even if the weather is awful but this is what it feels like sometimes.

As good as it gets?

This is about as close to perfection as I've seen in awhile.

Oh and it's like 13lbs.

White Booties

I was addicted a few years ago and thought I had it under control. I am back on the stuff. It's a disease and I need help.

Euro Trash Wednesday

My favorite pro right now is Filippo Pozzato. You think I like white Sidi's, he takes it to a whole new level.

What the Analog Mustache rides.

You may have asked yourself what does the Analog Mustache ride? Well here is the first installment, my history with bikes is kind of like Jerry Seinfeld's take on dating. I get really excited and then after a few rides find minor detail to cause my utter disdain and then off to the next. As many of you who know me have heard I think any bike with out drop bars is for nerds, or huckers as the case may be but more on that later. I feel like riding comfortably in the drops is a badge of honor and inclusion into esoteric excellence. But riding my race bike home hammered way getting old so I defiled this beauty. It's a early 80's Colnago Super and I have turned it into a nerd bike. Yuck. This is the most self depreciating I get, so don't get used to it.

Let's keep it Retro today.

My dream bike in my favorite color.

Bike racers used to look cool.

I'm bringing this back as my new winter training look.

Merckx Monday.

Ernesto Colnago helping out.

Less cargo tracks and more of this....

Track cargo bikes.

These are SO dumb and I am seeing way more of them pop up. A twitchy track geometry with a front rack and no brakes. Oh and why not throw in a 18hole front wheel to make it REALLY the dumbest bike ever.

Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

Does it get any more Euro than this?

I thought white booties was Euro-trash but turns out being naked with another guy is the ultimate. Both these guys won the Giro, so they should know.

I love cannondales!

If you know me you know that I have a weird thing for can o' ales. They are just so light and Euro, so many Italian teams have ridden them and made in America! BUT No more.

Keirin bikes and why they are dumb.

It's lucky I am too tall to ride one of these things because the geometries are so wacky, I can't believe people put up with these rolling geometric quagmires. Just look at this seat tube angle. OK, enough!

Enough American bikes

Lets not forget Italians do it best!

Zanconato cycles.

Mike Zanconato is quickly becoming the new Richard Sachs. He has the same East coast flavor and the love for cross but with a little more Belgium thrown in. Here are a few of my faves from the interwebs.

Cross bikes I actually like.

I have raced cross for four seasons. It's dumb and the bikes are gross but these ones are okay.

Crazy catalogs

I really love crazy bike catalogs from the 80's. I wish I was as cool as these guys when I ride my Paramount.

More Speedvagen

I am soooooooo into these things right now. Modern steel race bikes are the future.

Dick Sachs

Richard Sachs has been at it longer that about anyone. You should listen to what he say's. I do.

Also he finished top 5 in nation masters rankings this season in cross.

Merckx Monday

A few blogs do a Merckx monday, I will try to focus on images of the man at work not pink hipster dufus pursuit bikes with white tires.
Image stolen from pezcycling.com

What I want for Christmas.

I have been a bad boy but I hope Santa brings me a Speedvagen. Please? I really like these two.

No cross bikes though, Gross.......

Bike nerds

I am really over nerds stressing about their bikes and not riding them. One should concern themself with becoming a better rider not compulsively buy bike parts. Here is a link on the subject started by master frame builder Dave Kirk. http://www.velocipedesalon.com/forum/showthread.php?t=550

And an example of his work.

This blog is going to be almost as rad as this.
